Authors Publishing House, along with its parent, subsidiary, and affiliated entities (collectively referred to as “APH”), respects your privacy and values the relationship we have with you. This Privacy Policy describes the types of information APH may collect from you, how APH uses the information, with whom APH may share it, and the choices available to you regarding APH’s use of the information. This Privacy Policy also describes the measures APH takes to protect the security of the information and how users of this website and APH’s customers can contact APH about its privacy practices. This Privacy Policy applies to www.authorspublishinghouse.com and all other APH websites, landing pages, applications, online services, and other features or downloads that include a link to this Privacy Policy, whether accessed via computer, mobile device, or other means (collectively referred to as the “Sites”).

By using the Sites, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Sites. APH reserves the right to modify or amend the terms of its Privacy Policy from time to time without prior notice. Your continued use of the Sites following the posting of changes to these terms will mean that you accept those changes.

  1. Information APH Collects About You

Information You Provide. You may choose to provide APH certain personal information, whether over the telephone, on the Sites, via email, or at live events. The types of “Personal Information” that you may provide to APH include:

  • Contact information, such as name, postal address, email address, and phone number (collectively referred to as “Personally Identifiable Information” or “PII”);
  • Payment and tax information, such as your credit card number, expiration date, delivery address and billing address, banking account, and tax-related information (collectively referred to as “Financial Information”);
  • Demographic information, including characteristics of protected classifications, such as your age, gender, or ethnicity;
  • Transaction information, such as products and services purchased;
  • Information that you provide when you enter a contest or promotion sponsored by APH or its affiliates;
  • Your responses to surveys that APH may ask you to complete for training or research purposes;
  • Audio, electronic, visual, or similar information, such as recordings of customer service calls;
  • Any other personal information that you voluntarily provide, including information you provide when you create an account, purchase APH’s products or services, or contact APH;
  • Information provided to APH by social networks when you log in to the Sites using your social network credentials; and
  • Inferences drawn from any of the above, such as your preferences or interests.

Information APH Collects through Automated Means. In addition to the Personal Information that you provide, APH and its third-party service providers may use various technologies that automatically or passively collect information such as your usage, browsing activity, device, and geolocation data (collectively referred to as “Usage Information”) when you visit or interact with the Sites, APH’s emails, or APH’s online advertisements. As set forth in more detail below, APH may also collect Usage Information using various web-based technologies.

The technologies that APH may use for this automatic data collection may include:

  • Cookies (or browser cookies). A cookie is a small file placed on the hard drive of your computer or tablet, mobile or other device when you visit the Sites or access APH’s online content. Cookies may be used for many purposes, including, but not limited to: (1) to recognize you and to remember your preferences; (2) to track your visits to the Sites; (3) to facilitate online purchases; (4) to enable and support APH’s security features; (5) to help APH detect malicious activity; (6) to show you relevant advertising; and (7) to track action taken in response to advertisements.
    • You may refuse to accept browser cookies by activating or adjusting the appropriate privacy settings on your browser or device. However, if you choose to disable cookies or adjust your privacy settings, you may be unable to use all of the features of the Sites.
  • Web Server Logs. In conjunction with obtaining information through cookies, APH’s web servers may log details such as your operating system type, browser type, domain, and other system settings, as well as the language your system uses and the country and time zone in which your device is located. The web server logs also may record information such as the address of the web page that linked you to the Sites and the IP address of the device you use to connect to the Internet.
  • Web Beacons. Pages of the Sites and APH’s emails to you may contain small electronic files known as “web beacons” (also referred to as clear gifs, pixel tags, and single-pixel gifs). Web beacons or similar technologies may be used for a variety of purposes, including, but not limited to (1) to count users to the Sites or specific pages on the Sites; (2) to monitor how users navigate the Sites; (3) to count how many people opened an email or clicked on a link; (4) to track other website statistics, such as the popularity of certain website content; and (5) to verify system and server integrity and security.

Third-Party Web Analytics Services

APH may use third-party web analytics services on the Sites, such as Google Analytics. The service providers that administer these services use technologies such as cookies, web server logs, web beacons, and similar technologies to help APH analyze how visitors use the Sites, their emails, and their online advertisements. The information collected through these means is disclosed to these service providers.

Targeted Advertising

APH also may allow third-party advertising services and networks to use cookies, web server logs, web beacons, and similar technologies on the Sites and its emails, third-party websites and emails, and its advertising placed on third-party websites. They use this information to provide advertisements about APH’s services that may be of interest to you. You may see these advertisements on other websites. APH does not control these third-party technologies, and they are not subject to this Privacy Policy. APH does not authorize these third parties to use this technology to collect Personal Information about you, and they do not have access to the Personal Information that you provided to APH. They may, however, track your Internet usage anonymously (that is, without being able to identify you personally) over time and across other websites beyond the Sites. Do Not Track Notice or Signals

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” feature that allows you to automatically transmit a “Do Not Track” signal to websites and online services that you do not want to have your online activities tracked. APH does not respond to these “Do Not Track” signals. At this time, APH does not track information about your online activities over time and across third-party websites. APH also does not authorize third parties to collect any Personal Information from you on the Sites for these purposes.

Public Forums

This Privacy Policy does not apply to any information that you choose to post, submit, or share in public forums, such as reviews, comments, critiques, editorials, testimonials, or blog discussions. Information or other content that you choose to make available in a public forum may be viewed, collected, and used by others. APH encourages you to use caution when posting personal information in a public forum.

  1. How APH Uses Your Information

APH uses Personal Information that you provide to APH and Usage Information that APH collects through automated means to:

  • Perform services, including maintaining or servicing accounts, providing customer service, processing or fulfilling orders and transactions, verifying customer information, processing payments, making royalty payments, if applicable, providing advertising or marketing services, providing analytics services, or providing similar services;
  • Send communications and contact you about APH’s publishing services and related products and services, including promotional materials and other information about the publishing services of APH’s various imprints;
  • Administer your participation in special events, contests, sweepstakes, surveys, and other promotions;
  • Perform audits regarding a current interaction with you and concurrent transactions, including, but not limited to, counting ad impressions to unique visitors, verifying positioning and quality of ad impressions, and auditing compliance;
  • Short-term, transient use, including, but not limited to, the contextual customization of ads shown as part of the same interaction;
  • Detect security incidents, protect against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity, and prosecute those responsible for that activity;
  • Debug to identify and repair errors that impair existing intended functionality;
  • Operate, optimize, and improve APH’s products, services, and operations, including, but not limited to, developing new services, managing communications, performing data analytics, research, and analysis to improve APH’s products, services, marketing, and customer relationships;
  • Comply with legal obligations or to protect APH’s legal rights;
  • Facilitate internal purposes such as auditing, data analysis, and research to improve APH’s services and communications;
  • Customize and personalize your experience with APH, including through advertising and communications, and identifying your preferences;
  • Manage your participation in APH’s events and other promotions and
  • Provide customer service and process your inquiries.
  1. Information APH Shares

APH does not share Personal Information with unaffiliated third parties for their own marketing purposes without your consent. APH may share your Personal Information with:

  • Service Providers: APH may share Personal Information with companies that provide services on APH’s behalf, such as hosting the Sites, processing payments, providing customer service, and performing data analysis and research. These service providers are contractually restricted from using your Personal Information for any purpose other than to provide services to APH.
  • Business Transfers: APH may share or transfer your Personal Information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any proposed or actual merger, sale, or acquisition of all or a portion of APH’s business, assets, or equity, or any other similar transaction, including the case of insolvency, bankruptcy, or receivership.
  • Legal and Safety Obligations: APH may disclose your Personal Information: (1) if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with legal process, law enforcement requirements, or requests of government authorities; (2) to enforce APH’s terms of use or other agreements; (3) to protect and defend APH’s rights or property; or (4) to protect the personal safety of APH’s customers or the public.
  1. Your Rights and Choices

You have several choices regarding how your Personal Information is used. You may:

  • Access, Update, and Correct Information: If you have an online account with APH, you can log into your account at any time to access and update your information. You may also contact APH to request access to, correct, or update any personal information that you have provided to APH.
  • Opt-Out of Marketing Communications: You may opt out of receiving marketing emails from APH by following the unsubscribe instructions in those emails. Please note that even if you opt out of receiving marketing emails, APH may continue to send you non-promotional emails, such as those about your account, purchases, or ongoing business relations.
  • Cookie Preferences: You may refuse to accept cookies or adjust your privacy settings, as described above.
  1. Children under the Age of 13

The Sites are not intended for children under 13 years of age. No one under age 13 may provide any information to or on the Sites. APH does not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under 13. If APH learns it has collected or received Personal Information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, APH will delete that information. If you believe APH might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact APH.

  1. Data Security

APH has implemented measures designed to secure your Personal Information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. All information you provide to APH is stored on secure servers behind firewalls. Any payment transactions will be encrypted using SSL technology.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the Internet is not completely secure. Although APH does its best to protect your Personal Information, APH cannot guarantee the security of your Personal Information transmitted to the Sites. Any transmission of Personal Information is at your own risk. APH is not responsible for circumventing any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Sites.

  1. Links to Other Websites

The Sites may contain links to other websites, such as social networks, advertisers, and other third parties. APH is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of those other websites. This Privacy Policy applies solely to information collected by APH.

  1. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy and any disputes related to it are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflicts of law principles.

  1. Changes to This Privacy Policy

APH may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When APH makes changes to this Privacy Policy, APH will post the updated policy on the Sites and update the Privacy Policy’s effective date. Your continued use of the Sites after APH posts any modifications to this Privacy Policy will constitute your acknowledgement of the modifications and your consent to abide and be bound by the modified Privacy Policy.
